Praise for our vegan tour of Ireland

It is three weeks since we returned from our Hiking Biking Vegan trip through the countryside of Ireland. Now that we are home, there is not a day that has gone by that I have not returned to our many pictures to remind myself of the glorious experience. The rolling hills, the quiet country-side, the vast ocean views, and the lovely Irish locals all created a wonderful backdrop. However, the star of the show was our amazing tour guide, Fielding. His passion, energy, knowledge, and child-like curiosity, created a magically seven days that we will never forget. We are grateful and can't wait for our next trip.

Itinerary

Cycling Tour of Ireland

Day 1: Arrive in Dublin

Saturday, July 3, 2027

Welcome to Ireland 🇮🇪 Your guide (that’s me!) will meet you at the airport. Once you’ve settled in at your hotel, feel free to rest or explore the city center on your own. Our tour officially begins over dinner, when we’ll have the chance to get to know one another and discuss the week of adventure ahead. Afterwards, you can turn in early to beat the jet lag or hit the town in search of live Irish music and a pint of Guinness. Overnight in Dublin.

Day 2: Slieve League Peninsula

Sunday, July 4, 2027

Our day begins with a transfer from Dublin to Carrick, a picturesque hamlet on the banks of the River Glen. Today’s ride introduces us to a wilder side of Ireland, where wind and waves have spent eons carving out some of Donegal’s most iconic natural landmarks. The Slieve League sea cliffs are the highest in Europe, while the Silver Strand is a place like no other: a white sand beach surrounded on three sides by sheer cliffs, where waterfalls cascade down into some of the bluest water I’ve ever seen. Looking for even more adventure? Take a side quest to Muckross Head, a popular view point along the Wild Atlantic Way. Overnight in Carrick.

Ride Details: 48 km / 30 miles | 771 m / 2,530 ft
Ride Extension: + 20 km / 12 miles | + 454 m / 1,490 ft

Day 3: Maghera Strand

Monday, July 5, 2027

Today’s ride begins with a climb up to the Crocknamurrin mountain bog, where we’ll see bricks of “turf” (the local word for peat) drying in ornate stacks. This abundant biomaterial has heated Irish homes for centuries. After a detour to An Port (one of the most overlooked yet surreal spots I’ve ever been), we’ll make an awe-inspiring descent down Granny Pass. After a brief stop to admire Assaranca Falls, we’ll arrive at the white sands of Maghera Strand. Give yourself time to explore its many cliffs, tide pools and sea caves before continuing on to Glenties, our home for the night. Don’t want the exploring to end? Tack on some miles with a scenic ride along Gweebarra Bay. Overnight in Glenties.

Ride Details: 53 km / 33 miles | 880 m / 2,887 ft
Ride Extension: + 21 km / 13 miles | + 399 m / 1,310 ft
